Shame On You Mr. Chip Tsao

Mr. Chip Tsao,

From your rantings, I can deduce that you either don’t know your History or possess a very short memory.

Before the outbreak of World War II and up to the ‘50’s , we imported a lot of Chinese amahs to take care of our children. We did not call them ‘servants’; as a matter of fact, we treated them like members of the family, eating with us at the same dining table (not with the househelp in the kitchen) and enjoying the same sleeping quarters as our children. Did we call you a nation of servants then. No, but I don’t expect you to understand that because we were brought up differently.

Before you were born, China’s (and Hongkong’s) cheapest mode of transportation was the rickshaw pulled by your forebear like beasts of burden. Did we call you a nation of animals then?

At the turn of the 20th century, the United States hired thousands of Chinese laborers to help build their railroad. Did we call you a nation of coolies then?

No, because we believed and still believe in the dignity of honest labor and even when abused, like you have abused your maid Louisa, we do not put arsenic in our employer’s food.

Finally, I hope you are not thinking of visiting our country anytime soon because I and millions of Filipinos will personally meet you at the airport to kick your ass all the way back to Hongkong.

P.S. – By the way, you call yourself a columnist in English. Shame on you; my 10 year old granddaughter speaks and writes English better than you.
